Business Update August 2012

Employees who drink or abuse other substances during the workday can spell disaster for obvious reasons. Studies have shown that supervisors that demonstrate they can identify workplace substance abuse are more likely to have an impact on preventing or putting a stop to this dangerous behavior.

Agnesian HealthCare’s IntegNet Employee Assistance Program (EAP) wants to help area companies with substance abuse identification and actionable steps during Substance Abuse Supervisory Training (DOT & non-DOT) in both Ripon and Fond du Lac this fall.

The training is open to all companies and will feature an official with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA). The official will review current regulations, provide an overview of the FMCSA and describe the role this administration plays with local businesses.

Training is scheduled on Thursday, September 20 at the Ripon Area Fire District Training Room, 515 Aspen Street, Ripon. An additional session is set for Wednesday, October 17 at the St. Agnes Hospital Plaza Level Conference Center, 430 E. Division Street, Fond du Lac.

Registration and continental breakfast begins at 7:30 a.m., with the training program beginning at 8 a.m. and concluding at 11 a.m. at both locations. The last hour will be with the DOT official.

The training program will educate supervisors on alcohol and drug use and abuse, and provide an overview of Reasonable Suspicion testing, including signs, symptoms and documentation. DOT drug and alcohol testing regulations will be covered, as well as an update on recent changes to DOT regulations. Attendees will receive a comprehensive training manual and resource guide, as well as a certificate of attendance for DOT compliance.

Substance Abuse Supervisory Training is mandatory for supervisors of employees holding Commercial Driver’s Licenses (CDLs) and those subject to the FMSCSA’s drug and alcohol testing guidelines. The DOT requires one-time training, yet new supervisors and supervisors seeking a refresher course are encouraged to attend. Non-DOT supervisors are equally encouraged to attend this informative program.

The cost of the program is $50, or free of charge if a client of Agnesian HealthCare’s IntegNet EAP program. Checks can be made payable to IntegNet EAP, and sent to Journeys: a health resource center, 430 E. Division Street, Fond du Lac, WI 54935.

Space is limited; register by calling Journeys: a health resource center at (920) 926-4961, or sending an e-mail to
