Business Update December 2012: Employee assistance programs provide a big boost to businesses, employees

Mental health and substance use issues have a significant impact on the workplace and employees, including absenteeism, presenteeism, loss of productivity and exacerbation of physical illnesses.

December is the time of year when people extend their wishes for a safe and happy holiday season. Although the holidays can be a time of great joy for some, they also can be a source of stress and frustration for others. Employee assistance program (EAP) professionals are a resource to help individuals and families facing what can be challenging times.

EAP services provided by the Agnesian Work & Wellness are designed to both assist employees, and support the productivity and profitability of employers.

Employee assistance programs help employers maintain a healthy, stable, productive workforce where personal and family needs and issues are addressed before they interfere with job performance.

Management consulting and training are also readily available to advise managers and supervisors on how to identify and effectively intervene with an employee that may be struggling.

Businesses are welcome to begin work with the Agnesian Work & Wellness EAP at any time of the year. In fact, Agnesian Work & Wellness EAP services currently serve more than 15,000 subscribing members at a low cost – generally $20 per employee per year.

The professional EAP staff can assist employees in locating quality services for help in many life management areas, including substance abuse, family conflict or crisis, stress, life traumas, job difficulties, financial setbacks, legal matters and many other situations.

Master’s-prepared counselors and certified employee assistance professionals are available to talk over the phone, or in person by appointment, either daytime or evening. The EAP counselor’s role is to help the individual or family assess their situation and then provide counseling, and if needed connection to other resources, toward issue resolution.
