Fall prevention is important for your health. Here are things you can do to minimize your risk for falling.

STAND TALL:

Shoes-Always wear sensible and good fitting shoes.

Tell-Tell family members, friends and your doctor if you feel dizzy.

Assistive Device-Always use your cane, walker or other assistive device when walking.

No Hazards-Remove all throw rugs, cords, obstacles or clutter you may trip over.

Doctor-Schedule regular visits with your doctor and make your doctor aware of any change in vision, increase in dizziness or decrease in balance.  Also discuss current medications you may be taking.

 

Think-think before you act, don’t put yourself in dangerous situations.

Activity-Stay active by walking, swimming or performing an exercise program.

Lighting-Make sure you have adequate lighting throughout your house and use nightlights in bathrooms and bedrooms.

Laugh-Watch a funny movie or read a comic strip.  Depression leads to inactivity.
