This Wednesday, October 9, is National HealthCares About Domestic Violence Day. This day aims to reach members of the healthcare community to educate them on the importance of screening for abuse in the healthcare setting. It also helps bring awareness to the long-term physical and emotional effects that victims of domestic abuse experience and the services they seek because of these effects.
At Agnesian HealthCare, we help bring awareness to these issues through posters in exam rooms and bathrooms that are accessible to patients and our associates. We also train our medical staff on how to properly identify abuse situations and screen appropriately. Because of Agnesian HealthCare’s help in identifying victims of domestic violence, our program has been able to serve 4,258 patients from 1995 until last year in 2012. These patients have been able to receive counseling, legal and medical advocacy, and other support due to your referrals to the program. Thank you.
