Healthy alternatives to the Easter basket

We all love those big chocolate rabbits that we bite the ears off and eventually get the whole thing eaten by supper on Easter! Well, that is what I did as a child and thought nothing of it. Now I am like, “I can’t believe I ate all that chocolate; I wonder how much fat and calories were in that thing?”

As a mother, I am torn between the fun and yumminess of the chocolate rabbit, and the responsible and healthy choice I should make for my son. I think it best to add some healthy alternatives to the basket this year. Here are some ideas:

  • Cheese sticks
  • Granola mix with “Easter” colored M&M’s mixed in
  • More plastic eggs with money – like change for younger children to learn how to count
  • Art supplies
  • Gardening supplies
  • Athletic/exercise equipment – soccer ball, jump rope, etc.

Happy Easter and remember, be creative!
